A Great Southern Lady

I was asked by a client today to recommend a tree that could be used in a more formal setting, not be over powered by the scale of their home, provide 4 seasons of interest as well as a bit of screening from the long winding drive to the main house.
 My choice, The Magnolia 'Grandiflora'.

Large leathery evergreen leaves and sweetly scented flowers who could resist. With new varieties  being introduced over the past few years , this tree has now become available here in the Northeast as well. Versatile, it can be a shade tree, or ornamental patio tree , espaliered on a fence or building, as well as used for evergreen screening. Plant in mass or as a single specimen tree

Introduced to this magnificent tree years ago while working on a design project in Anniston, Alabama.  I fell in love. This love affair has continued for 40 years.
